Obituary for Robert Basler

Robert Noland "Bob" Basler, 91, of Hampstead, Maryland died on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester, Maryland.

Born March 16, 1917 in Hampstead, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ira Jacob and Rosie Lowe Basler. He was the husband of the late Gertrude May Davidson Basler.


He was a 1934 graduate of Westminster High School and had been a self-employed dairy farmer. Prior to farming, he had driven a laundry truck for Troy Laundry driving daily to Hagerstown, Maryland in a 1929 Ford truck.


He was a lifelong member of St. John's (Leister's) Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a longtime participant of the adult sunday school where he served as treasurer and received perfect attendance for many years. He also belonged to the men's group and Keenagers.


He enjoyed gardening, playing dominoes and cards and eating oysters and crabs with family and friends.


Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, R. Davidson "Dave" Basler, Sr. and Loretta Basler of Hampstead, Maryland; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Elaine Basler Zepp and Milton S. Zepp of Westminster, Maryland, Linda May Basler Holland and Kenneth L. Holland of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Jane Colleen Basler Lippy and Scott Lippy of Frederick, Maryland; brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond K. and Janet Basler of Jefferson and Anna Fay Jenkins of Upperco, Maryland; grandsons, Robert D. Basler, Jr. of Wisconsin, M. Randy Zepp of Arizona, Daniel Holland of Maryland and David Holland of Tennessee; granddaughters, Beth Basler Busch of New York, Bonnie Konsen of Westminster, Maryland, Lana Kay Pieczynski of Massachusetts and Colleen Lippy Musson of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; and 19 great-grandchildren.


He was predeceased by sisters, Fern Yingling and Mildred Ruby and brother, Ira J. Basler, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church located at 827 Leister's Church Road in Westminster, Maryland with the Rev. David Schafer officiating. Interment will be in St. John's (Leister's) Cemetery in Westminster, Maryland.


Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Eline Funeral Home located at 934 South Main Street in Hampstead, Maryland; and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the church.
