Uncle Rich was a man of few words, but when he talked, everyone listened. He commanded respect from everyone he knew. He could be quite funny too, interjecting a quip now and again into conversations followed by his quiet laugh. He was a close brother-in-law and friend to my father, who loved and respected him very much. Whether they were fixing cars, building things, playing cards, playing pool, or playing horseshoes, they enjoyed each other's company. Almost every weekend growing up, I remember Aunt Sheila, Uncle Rich, Rich, and Steve being at our house or us at theirs having a good time.
My favorite memory of Uncle Rich is the time he taught me to pick crabs. Since neither my mother or father liked crabs, one day at a summer get-together at his house, Uncle Rich sat me down at the picnic table and patiently taught me how to pick and eat crabs. To this day whenever I eat crabs, I think of him and always will.
You will be missed dearly, Uncle Rich. Have a good time hanging with my father in heaven. Love you.
