I will miss Mom, we had a few good talks but I was looking forward to many more. When we first met she told me to call her mom but I wasn't comfortable with that since we had just met so it was Miss Carol for over a year. The beginning of this past December I had just started calling her Mom and was still getting used to it. It felt right. I got to know her during the 9 months she lived with Mike. We talked, played cards and watched TV together. She loved when Mike and I cooked for her, especially his famous SpongeBob mac and cheese with sautéed onions mixed in! She gave me good advice and assured me that Mike loves me, she could tell and that she was glad he was making an effort to spend more time with me and my kids together. For him it's hard not to think of the responsibility of being involved in their lives and that I should be patient and he will come around. Mom enjoyed going out to eat with my friend Walter and I and she always had witty comments! She was definitely a people person! When Mom moved to Golden Crest Assisted Living I would visit her, even brought the dog twice! But she rarely wanted to leave there. She had made many friends there and everyone liked her, she was the life of the part, leading sing-a-longs! They had activities, exercise, musical guests, a beautician to do hair and nails and she loved the crafts she made. Evening snack time was the best time to go. Everyone was sitting around the dining room talking and having a good time. She liked when I visited with two of my sons, especially when my youngest son played the piano. The first time she played with him. Right before Christmas Mike surprised her with a small Christmas tree in her room, I never saw a happier look on her face the whole time I knew her! She was taken from us too soon and she will be missed.
