Obituary for Gene R. Haines
Gene R. Haines, 77, of Hanover, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Hanover Hospital. Born August 26, 1940 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Roland and Anna (Virtz) Haines. He was the husband of Barbara Haines, his wife of 51 years.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and had worked at Black & Decker, Caterpillar and Keystone Machine. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, hiking, and was crazy about grandchildren. Gene had been the caretaker of Hampstead Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Dwayne Haines of Gaithersburg, MD, Greg Haines of Hampstead, MD; daughter, Linda Wagner and husband Mike of Pasadena, MD; stepson, Perry Coppersmith and wife Eva of Westminster, MD; daughter-in-law, Claudia Beckett of Hanover, PA; brother, Dennis Haines and companion Bonnie Becker of Melbourne, FL; sister, Joan Fritz and husband Leon of Taneytown, MD. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a stepson, Randy Coppersmith.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 25, 2018, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, MD. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, 11:00 am at Eline Funeral Home with Rev. Norma Schenning officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.
