Obituary for John Anthony Lacomare

John Anthony Lacomare
John Anthony Lacomare, of Hampstead, Maryland, died in the serenity of his home on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the age of 87.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Maiorana) Lacomare.

After serving in the United States Army, he completed a 28 year career at Giant Food. During his career at Giant Food, he met his wife, Shirley (Schaeffer) Lacomare. John and Shirley were inseparable after sharing almost 50 years of marriage together.
John was the definition of a family man. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends - every Sunday finished with a family dinner with his children and grandchildren as he believed that family spending time together was a priority. During those times and after dinner he loved to play card games and dominoes - he would play until late into the evening but was always ready and willing to play another game or two by saying with a smile, "how about another?" He also loved horse racing, baseball, and football - he was an avid Orioles and 49ers fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family in Ocean City, MD where he would frequent his family's restaurant, Mario's, while also filling the time with trips to the boardwalk and many rounds of putt-putt.

John was a gentle and kind man with a laid back personality that made people comfortable and relaxed. Even during his later years, as he faced significant health challenges, he was always more concerned about the well being of others in favor of ever mentioning or much less complaining about his ailments. He loved to laugh and enjoyed all that life had to offer.

John was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Lacomare as well as by many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Shirley (Schaeffer) Lacomare, daughter, Dena Schnitzer, son, Joseph Lacomare and his wife, Kimberly, and his four grandchildren; Brooke, Nick, Emma, and Joseph.

Special thanks to the many care providers from Carroll Hospice who helped John on his final journey and to Eline Funeral Home who treated him with the dignity and respect of a loved one.

Friends may call at the Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, MD, on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 3-5 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery Chapel.
