Betty I.  Rohde (Richards)
Betty I. Rohde, 92, of Spring Grove, PA passed away Friday March 10, 2017 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA.

Born June 25, 1924 in Hampstead, MD, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Anna (Elseroad) Richards. Twice widowed, she was the wife of the late Walter C. Parker and Edgar G. Rohde.

Mrs. Rohde was a great, great, etc. granddaughter of Edward Richards (1678-1755), regarded as the first white man to have settled the area (of Hampstead) and whose name is derived from the Richards family home in Hampstead, England.

She began a career of song and dance at a young age. She sang at the Hippodrome Ballroom in Baltimore. She operated dance studios in Manchester, Westminster and Hampstead. Later, she worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Joseph Bush in Hampstead and retired from Long View Nursing Home in Manchester.

Surviving are daughters, Linda D. Parker-Stone of Long Beach, MS and Lisa J. Yeager of Spring Grove; three stepsons, Theodore Rohde of Owings Mills, MD, Edgar G. Rohde, Jr. of Reisterstown, MD and William Rohde of Virginia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 17, 2017, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held on 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Carr officiating. Interment will be in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville.
