Allen Leroy Chaffman, Sr., 93, formerly of Hampstead, MD passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at Lorien Health Systems of Mt. Airy, MD.

He was born on October 28, 1923 in Baltimore County, MD, the third child of the late Walter C. and Blanche Bareham Chaffman.

The last member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Chaffman Fitch and Lillian Chaffman Fitch and a brother, Edward Chaffman. His wife, Jeanne Baublitz Chaffman passed in 1991.

Allen is survived by his son, Allen L. Chaffman, Jr. (Vicki). He was the cherished grandfather of Sean Chaffman (Kristen) and Tim Chaffman (Jordan); great-grandfather of Courtney and Kensley Chaffman, and Joel and Luke Chaffman. He was the uncle to several nieces and nephews as well.

Allen attended Towson High School, but cut short his education to join the military effort in WW II. Allen served as a cannoneer with the 31st Coast Artillery Harbor Defenses in the European and African theaters from 1943 to his honorable discharge in 1946. He enjoyed his membership in the American Legion in Hampstead.

Following his military service, he married Jeanne Baublitz and began a 40 year career working as a machinist with Black and Decker. Shortly after retirement, he enjoyed riding his bike along the trails in state parks. He also loved taking bus trips with his traveling companion, Faye Lamberson. He loved seeing the beautiful national parks, sights and scenery of the United States.

Allen was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he served for several years on the board of trustees.

Allen was a quiet, gentle man who was dedicated to his family. He loved spending time with his son and grandsons. He liked to fish and made numerous trips to Ocean City, MD. He enjoyed being outside and took great pride in keeping up his property on Cape Horn Road, Hampstead, where he proudly lived for 50 years.

Allen's family is grateful for the love and care he received from caregiver, Mary Mannes and the many caregivers, nurses and staff at Lorien Health Systems.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 AM at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, officiated by Rev. Barbara Allen. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.
