Clinton E. Richards, 94, of Hampstead, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA, where he took great pleasure in the wonderful and loving staff who cared for him.

Clint was born November 13, 1921, on the family farm just outside of Hampstead where he had lived his entire life prior to spending the last four years of life at Plum Creek. He was the son of Marshal E. Richards and Anna Mae Elseroad Richards. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Edna (Mick) Mays Richards, in 2003. For the six years prior to entering Plum Creek, he was the loving companion of Anna Montgomery.

He is also a great, great, etc. grandson of Edward Richards (1678-1755), regarded as the first white man to have settled the area (of Hampstead) and whose name is derived from the Richards family home in Hampstead, England.

He started school in the one room Houcksville School before going on to Hampstead High School. As a young man, he also enjoyed playing the guitar. For several years, he played in a band. He and Mick also loved to travel, visiting 49 of the 50 states. He did not accompany Mick on the trip to Hawaii.

Hard work and helping people, friends and strangers alike, were important to Clint. He has farmed all of his life, initially working side by side with his father until his father’s retirement at the age of 75. Clint loved his land with a passion and took great pride in his farming operation. Due to illness, he was forced to retire from active farming at the age of 90 years and two+ months. As a young man, he also “huckstered” eggs and other agriculture products to Baltimore. “The Farm”, as we all called it, was a great gathering place for family and friends where many, many good times were shared.

He has been a lifetime member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a member of Westminster Moose Lodge, and United Coon Hunters Association (oldest living member).

Surviving are daughter Donna R. MacDonald of Hampstead and son Richard W. Richards and wife Nancy of Tyaskin, MD: grandchildren Sandra MacDonald, Susan MacDonald and husband Jon Killough, Julie MacDonald and Chad Lauridsen: great grandchild Wilbur Lauridsen and sister Betty R. Rohde.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9, Friday, January 29, 2016, at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD. A celebration service will be held at 11 on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Eline Funeral Home, Hampstead, with the Rev. Gary Buchman officiating.
