Lucy (Turner) Hekl “91” passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her home in Reisterstown, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Nyack, NY on October 24, 1923, Lucy lived a long life and leaves behind a legacy of loving family members. Lucy raised her children in Garnerville, NY and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the SW Johnson Volunteer Fire Company. Lucy moved to Saco, Maine where she continued her life’s journey. She volunteered for many years at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. Lucy and her husband Frank retired to Manchester, NJ and spent many winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. After Frank passed, Lucy moved to Reisterstown, Maryland where she lived the rest of her life with her daughter’s family, while receiving love and comfort from her friend and care companion, Amy Armacost.
Lucy is survived by her loving children: Tim Hekl and Karen of Garnerville, NY, Pat Ruther of Reisterstown, MD, Peter Hekl and wife Kathy of Plainsboro, NJ, Nancy Shea and husband Dan of Tomkins Cove, NY and Doug Hekl of Portland, ME; Grandchildren: Timmy and Silvia, Jessica, Charles, Joe, Michael, Robert, Kurt, Danny, Trish, Stephen and Theresa, Lori, Peter, Melissa, Megan, Justin, and Anton; and Great Grandchildren: Caitlyn, Nicole, Steven, Gavin, Lucy and Lane.
Lucy is predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Frank Hekl, her brothers Charles and Douglas Turner, her loving son-in-law Steve Ruther, and great granddaughter Elizabeth Ruther.
Friends may call at Eline Funeral Home, 2901 Bloom Road (at 91), Finksburg, MD 21048 on Wednesday October 14th from 4 – 6 PM. Funeral Services will immediately follow.
Lucy will be laid to rest with her husband at the Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY on October 16th. There will be a Graveside Service at 1 PM for family and friends, followed by a luncheon at Lynch's Restaurant in Stony Point, NY.
