Obituary for Geraldine Agnes Schwesinger (McGuire)

Geraldine Agnes Schwesinger (McGuire)
Geraldine (nee McGuire) Schwesinger, a retired florist, died of complication from a fall on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Season’s Hospice, Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown.
She was born in Pikesville, MD, on November 15, 1919. Her father was Albert L. McGuire, owner of McGuire’s Florist in Pikesville and her mother was Sara Belle Little McGuire, business owner and housewife. She was the wife of the late George J. Schwesinger, who passed away in 2008.
In her early years she graduated from Franklin High School in 1936 and Strayer Business College in 1938. In the late 1930’s she worked for her father’s business when she met her future husband George “Jerry” Schwesinger, who worked with his father in a drive-in ice cream dairy business on Reisterstown Road near Mt. Wilson Lane in Pikesville. It was called the Castleton Dairy. They married in 1940 and shortly thereafter Jerry joined his wife’s father in the florist business, known as McGuire’s Florist. The florist, two homes, and 13 greenhouses were a fixture at Hooks Lane and Reisterstown Road for over 60 years until the property was sold in 1973. They moved to Fieldstone, a historic community in Randallstown. In 1974, Geraldine and Jerry still wanting to be involved in the florist business, went to work part-time for the Pikesville Garden Center until they retired again in 2002, and were known for their striking floral arrangements that were seen at many Baltimore affairs including the Preakness.
She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth (Bettye) Phillips in 2012 and brother-in-law Carroll (J.P.) Phillips in 2015. In later years Geraldine stayed close to home and loved to go out to eat and shop at various stores.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Timothy Clark.
Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road (at Franklin Blvd.) on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 3-5 and 7-9pm. Service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:30am at the funeral home. Interment in Druid Ridge Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.ElineFuneralHome.com
