Obituary for Virginia Lee White (Hoover)

Virginia White was born in Baltimore, MD on June 8, 1946 to Dorothy Virginia Phillips Hoover and Sterling Wilmer Hoover. She attended North Carroll High School in Greenmount, graduating Class of 1964. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology & Speech from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1968 and took graduate classes in Guidance and Counseling at Western Maryland College until 1972. In 1967, Virginia joined Experiment in International Living and lived with a family Switzerland for the summer. She belonged to the Service Club Branch of the Department of Army and spent a year in Korea from 1968 to 1969 with the Eighth U.S. Army Division.

After returning from Korea, Mrs. White taught at Mt. Airy Middle School from 1969 to 1970. She then worked for the YMCA in Westminster until the birth of her daughter in 1976. She would return to work for the YMCA in Annapolis in 1979 and serve as Executive Director there until 1984. Virginia began working for the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore in July 1984 and worked there until she retired in 2002, holding many different positions, from Representative in the Customer Service Department to Acting Administrator for the organization.

On January 16, 1993 she married Frank F. White. They resided in Hampstead until they both retired to make their home in Dagsboro, DE. She enjoyed gardening, baking, going to the beach, attending car shows with Frank, and spending time with her grandchildren. On Saturday January 21, 2023, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, following a brief illness.

Mrs. White is survived by her loving and devoted husband Frank, her daughter Melanie Tindale and husband John of Eldersburg, stepson Chris White and wife Tiffany of Parkton, three grandchildren, her sister Elizabeth “Betsy” Johnson and husband Doug of Ocean City, two nephews, Shane Johnson and wife Brandy, Jesse Johnson and wife Kim, niece Julie Johnson, and many great nieces and nephews.

A time of gathering will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023 from 2-3pm at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S Main Street, Hampstead, MD, followed by a memorial service at 3pm. She will be inurned at Greenmount Cemetery following the memorial service.
