Obituary for Thomas Eric Streicher

Thomas Eric Streicher, 71, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Thomas was born on October 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Thomas Raymond and Gladys Johnson Streicher.

In 1968, Thomas graduated from Westmont Hilltop High, where he was an accomplished baseball player. Thomas continued his baseball career at Slippery Rock University from which he graduated in 1973, with a degree in Physical Education. He also played in the Shenandoah Valley Virginia Baseball League during the summers before starting his career with Penn Central Railroad.

His career with the railroad was his niche. He was an accomplished safety expert, a leader, and a mentor. He worked with corporations such as Conrail, Norfolk Southern, Canton Railroad and the American Short Line Railroad Association. After his retirement, he was the principal of his own railroad safety consulting firm.

He married former spouse Peggy Huber on May 25, 1974, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the mother of his surviving son, Michael Raymond. During their marriage, Peggy and Thomas went to the Olympic Games in Montreal and Lake Placid. They enjoyed ski trips and golf leagues wherever they lived. They shared a love of classical music, baseball, and trains.

On April 28, 1989, Thomas married Linda Brace Streicher, in Hornell, New York, who exited this world of joyful experiences together with Thomas in 2017. Together, Thomas and Linda traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally, reveling in trips such as European River Cruises and especially the annual weeklong vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey with his children and grandchildren. Short trips included Broadway Shows and the Opera in New York City. In addition to the experiences above mentioned, Thomas loved to go to the gym, spicy food, an avid reader, a trivia aficionado, a fan of every Pittsburgh sports team, and held a deep personal faith in Roman Catholicism.

He is survived by his father, Thomas Raymond, a brother Raymond (Debbie), and a sister Jean (Stanley). He is also survived by his children: Son, Michael (Trisha), daughters Theresa and Laura (Quentin). He was a devoted grandfather and is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Tyler (Nicholas), Jordan, Jack, Alex, Charlie, and Clara, and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, his first wife, Peggy, survives as does his recent companion of three years Carolyn Williams, who were connected by shared experiences. They were both thankful to spend time with friends, traveling, cooking and being together.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM at Eline Funeral Home in Reisterstown, Maryland. Additional calling hours will be held on Friday from 10 AM to 12 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Pikesville, Maryland followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Thomas Streicher’s servants' heart may be made to My Sister’s Place Women’s Center, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD, 21201.

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and a railroader through and through. His boisterous laugh and generosity will be forever missed.
