Obituary for Rose Marie Reed (DeCosmo)

Rose Marie Reed, 88, of Hampstead, MD passed peacefully at her home with family around her on October 24, 2022.

Born November 25, 1933 in Old Forge, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph DeCosmo and Mary DelVecchio and the loving and devoted wife of 63 years to the late Walter (Bud) E. Reed, Jr.

Rose grew up in Pimlico, MD and attended The Catholic High School of Baltimore. She started her career at the Five and Dime as a bookkeeper. After marriage she moved to Hampstead where she lived and raised her large family. She used her business knowledge and experience to help run multiple family businesses that included Reed’s Produce & Eggs delivery business, Reed’s Buses, as well as Rosebud Antiques in their retirement years.

Rose was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Manchester, MD. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, craft-making, cooking, and sharing her Italian family recipes. Most of all Rose loved her role as mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted wife to Bud. She will be deeply missed by her large family and all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her three daughters: Joanne Dicke and husband Jim of Hampstead, Maria Kiler and husband R. Dale of Hampstead, Karen Cigrang and husband Paul of Hampstead; her oldest son: Steve and Stacey Reed of Hampstead, and youngest son, Michael Reed also in Hampstead. She was a dearly loved “Mom Mom” to her 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, passing along her wisdom and family values to them. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne M. Ruby of Hampstead and brother-in-law and his wife Ken and Norma Reed of Manchester. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Doris Ann Miller. Rose is also survived by her devoted friend and caretaker, Mary Ann Yancey.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 2:00 - 3:30 pm and 5:30 - 7:30 pm with a short memorial service immediately following at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Rose’s name to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, P.O. Box 448, Manchester, MD 21102.
