Obituary for Phyllis Rudolph (Porter)

Phyllis Anne Rudolph (nee Porter), 74, of Reisterstown MD passed on December 31, 2021 at Charter Senior Living of Woodholme, where she resided in the memory care unit. Phyllis was born on July 18, 1947 to the late Harold and Francis Porter (nee Gehman). She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Rudolph, and daughter, Jessica Rudolph. Surviving are her two children, James Rudolph and Elizabeth Phillips (James), and grandchildren Samuel and Lia Phillips, and Ronald Rudolph.

Phyllis grew up in the Towson area where she attended Towson Senior High School. She began nursing school, but realized that her true passion was music. She met her late husband, Bob, in the church choir at Towson United Methodist Church. They were married there in 1968. They later moved to Reisterstown MD, where Phyllis became the musical director at Glyndon United Methodist Church, and continued to direct the Candlelighters (an ecumenical women’s choir) out of Towson United Methodist (and later they moved rehearsals to Glyndon). Phyllis was an active member in her church community.

Phyllis also taught voice and piano lessons to dozens of students–adults and children alike. She continued her work with music well into her sixties. In 2019, after an extended stay in Texas with her son Jamie, Phyllis became a resident at Brookdale (now Charter Senior Living of Woodholme). There, she enjoyed dancing at happy hour, singing with her daughter when she visited, making friends, and bringing smiles to everyone she encountered. Throughout her life, even up to the very end, Phyllis exuded the kindness and joy that made people feel included, and special. She will be remembered by many for her musical gifts, and her unconditional love.

The family will receive friends at Glyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Road, Glyndon, MD 21071, from 11 am – 1 pm on May 14, 2022 with a memorial service beginning at 1 pm.
