I am so very sorry for the family's loss. I have very fond memories growing up and living right next door to Ria. She was always so kind and friendly. I enjoyed knowing her family as well, and liked hearing updates from my mom (Betty) after I moved out. My prayers go out to all of you.

With love,
Karen (Popp) Metler

Dearest Ms. Maria,
I was so saddened to hear of your passing on February 24th. Heaven has certainly gained one beautiful angel.
I will miss our many phone calls over the years and I am grateful for having had such a special friendship with you.
I loved hearing you say "Beth" in your beautiful Italian voice, How are you, the boys, and the grand boys doing.
Your interest, concern, and generosity to me and my family will forever be in my heart.
I enjoyed you so proudly telling me all about your family and their accomplishments and how you enjoyed spending time with all of them. Your love for them was radiant.
You were an amazing and strong woman Miss Maria, one that i will never forget. Thanks for the memories, and i will miss you.
Prayers to your entire family at this sad time.
With Love,
Beth (Edgeworth) Gubernat

Maria was a dear, dear friend and adoptive mom to my mother Valerie Bonkowski (they worked together at Loyola) Maria gave my mom an amazing friendship. I will always be grateful for that. I also cared very much for Maria and stayed in touch with her through the years after my mom passed away. Maria was truly one of kind. I am so sorry for your loss.

“Uncle Johnny’s Mother” is how we always greeted you every single CHRISTmas that we shared with you at Judy and John’s and you treated us all like we were your family as well. You were a beautiful woman both inside and out always smiling and never an unkind word. We are so Blessed to have known you and shared such special times with you. We will certainly miss you but never forget you especially since you and Jeff share the same birthday. Enjoy your heavenly reward Uncle Johnny’s Mother until we meet again . . . . xoxoxo
