Obituary for Marcus Howard Shagogue Jr.

December 27, 1934 – January 7, 2024 (89 years)

Marcus Howard Shagogue, Jr. aka “Marty” joined the Lord peacefully on January 7, 2024 in Westminster, Maryland. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy Louise Shagogue (nee Meushaw), two of their children: Suzanne Lynne Swisher and her husband Dan, and Marcus Howard Shagogue III, his brother Richard Shagogue and his wife Joanne, his son-in-law Theodore Schiller, Jr., seven grandchildren: Brianna McGinnis and her husband Danny, Zachary Hinton and his wife Lisa, Kevin Hinton, Theodore Schiller, III., Meghan Calma and her husband Andrae, Marcus Robertson, and Andrew Robertson, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and bonus (step) family members whom they embraced as their own.

Marty is predeceased by their daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Schiller, his mother Mildred Shagogue (nee Rinker), his father Marcus Howard Shagogue, Sr., and sisters Eva Shagogue and Helen Baker and her husband Lou.

Marty and Nancy were born and raised natives of Baltimore, Maryland. They met at their family’s church, fell in love, and married on July 25, 1959 following Marty’s service in the Navy during the Korean War. From Pimlico, to Woodlawn, to Reisterstown, to Carroll Vista in Taneytown, and finally to Brightview in Westminster, they enjoyed the benefits of living close to family. Marty and Nancy both retired as proud employees of the State of Maryland; Marty served as an Electrical Engineer for state projects. He graduated from Polytechnic Institute, class of 1951. He and his bride enjoyed worldwide travel with friends and family, church events, gourmet dinners with their “Young Marrieds” group, reading, beaches, gardening, birdwatching, Colts, Ravens and Orioles games, time with family, chocolate ice cream and milkshakes, and their beloved cat Lucy.


Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home 11824 Reisterstown Road Reisterstown, MD 21136 on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 1-3 P.M. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday April 5, 2024 at 10:30am. Interment in the Veterans' Cemetery at Garrison Forest.
