Maggie Bell Gorham Ivey was a caring wife, mother, nanna, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on May 7th, 2022.
She was born to Elijah and Rosa Gorham on June 12, 1943. Maggie was the second youngest in a family of 9 children and was the 2nd of the 3 daughters in the family. After graduating from high school in 1961, Maggie attended Durham Business College and obtained a B.A. in Secretarial Science in 1964. After graduating, Maggie met her husband, Alonzo and moved to New York. Together, they had 3 children: Shevon, Kosten, and Denise. She was a faithful and loyal wife and loving doting mother. She exemplified the true meaning of Motherhood. Maggie’s pride was in her family, faith, generosity, and compassion to everyone who had ever crossed her path.
Spreading joy and caring for others brought immense joy to Maggie. She loved connecting with all her family and friends and making sure that everyone stayed in touch. She had the biggest, brightest smile and a laugh that was contagious to everyone she met. Maggie is survived by her husband, Alonzo, her daughters, her beloved brother William, 2 sons in laws, her 7 precious grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and many nieces, nephews, “daughters” and “sons”.
Maggie loved spending time in the garden, planting her famous marigolds and impatiens. She enjoyed being outdoors more than inside and loved the sunny days and cool summer nights. Maggie made friends wherever she went and remembered to send cards for birthdays, graduations, and every holiday. She was tiny but mighty. Everyone loved listening to Maggie’s stories about growing up in the country and “The Cold Day.” She was a faithful Christian and just 6 days before she passed, she took her final communion at home. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 pm May 22nd at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on Bond Ave. in Reisterstown, MD. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ivey Family Scholarship Fund, 6 Woodfield Ct., Reisterstown MD 21136 on her behalf.
