Obituary for Joseph Anthony Warfield

Joe passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2021. He was born in Woodstock, Maryland to Clarence E. Warfield and Florence D. Warfield in 1934. He graduated from Loyola High School with honors. Joe worked as a surveyor for the County and studied engineering to advance as an engineer in the Department of Public Works, retiring after 30 years of service.

He was extremely bright and intelligent and was self-taught in his favorite subject botany. During retirement he volunteered as a trail guide at Oregon Ridge Park. He enjoyed teaching others about the beauty of nature. Joe also loved a round of golf with his family and friends. He enjoyed breakfast on Wednesdays at Elmo’s restaurant with friends. He was a quiet man who had a wry humor that would bring a laugh in an unexpected moment. He was a kind and caring person who was loved by everyone he touched.

Joe’s first marriage was to Dorothy Warfield with whom he had four children. In 1972 he married Catherine (Cas) Warfield with whom he spent the remainder of his life. Joe and Cas had two children.

Joe is survived by his sister Rita Warfield, wife Catherine Warfield, his first wife Dorothy Warfield, nephew David Warfield: his six children and their spouses: Patricia Johnson; Paul Warfield: (Elizabeth Warfield); Phillip Warfield (Nhung Warfield): Jacqueline Warfield: (Lorie Benning), Stephen Warfield (Sarah Warfield): Christopher Warfield (Christine Godfrey). He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be a private gathering to celebrate Joe’s life.
