Obituary for Gertrude "Gertie" Carr

Gertrude "Gertie" Louise Carr, 97, of Hampstead, passed away on April 6, 2023 at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Hampstead, MD.

Born on July 8, 1925, in Hampstead, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma (Martin) Rhoten. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Rhoten, Kenneth Rhoten, and Earl Rhoten; sisters, Elizabeth Small, Valeria Blessing, and Kathryn Virginia Boerner, son-in-law, John Edward Serio, Jr., and sons, Robert Wayne Carr and Thomas Grason Carr.

Gertie was a member Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Mt. Zion Ladies Auxillary. She loved to spend time with her church family and especially cherished spending time with her family.

Gertie enjoyed playing bingo at McDonalds on Tuesday mornings. When she wasn’t playing bingo, she was spending time at the slot machines. She frequently traveled with her son-in-law, John, to many different casinos. She enjoyed baking in her spare time as well.

Gertie is survived by daughter, Sharon May Serio of Hampstead, MD; a daughter-in-law, Caren Ann Carr of Hampstead, MD; six granddaughters, Gail Green, Heather Snider, Julie Harvey, Pamela Carr, Stacey Guerin, Sandra Reese; two grandsons, Anthony Carr, John Serio, III. In addition she is survived by 18 Great Grand Children and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 3-5pm & 7-9pm at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St. Hampstead, MD 21074. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 12:30 pm at Eline Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Greenwood and Rev. Jennifer L. Kokoski officiating.

Burial services will take place in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery, 3800 Black Rock Road, Upperco, MD 21155.
