Obituary for Gerald Hamilton Keller
Gerald Hamilton Keller, 65, of Reisterstown, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2020, at his apartment at Catholic Charities in Baltimore County, MD.
Born August 18, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry Keller, Jr. and the late Jessie Neva (Waddell) Keller, longtime residents of Lutherville, MD.
He is survived by two sisters, Carol L. (Keller) Hyneckeal of Westminster, Maryland and Janet D. (Keller) Orso-Allen of Salem, Oregon as well as one niece and three nephews.
Gerald (Jerry) attended Ft. Garrison Elementary school, Pikesville Jr. High and Pikesville Sr. High Schools in Pikesville, Maryland. After graduating from Pikesville Sr. High in 1972, Jerry embarked on a solo journey to Germany, a country he had dreamed about visiting for some time, and a trip which he would repeat several times throughout his life.
Besides traveling overseas, Jerry also did some traveling in the US and spent a couple of years living and working as a groundskeeper in Colorado. Home base was always the Baltimore area however, including Lutherville, Owings Mills, Reisterstown and Westminster as well as downtown Baltimore.
Throughout his life, Jerry’s main passion was music and he seized every opportunity he could to play his guitar, sing and play his harmonica to entertain others. While he didn’t make much money, he was happiest while singing and strumming. On at least one extended trip to Germany, he played his music on the streets for donations and supported himself with odd jobs such as washing dishes.
While living in downtown Baltimore from 2012 to 2014, Jerry began attending the Zion Lutheran Church. He loved the fact that the church offered a weekly service in German, as well as one in English. Most often, he would stay for both services. Later, while living further away, in Baltimore or Carroll County, he would find a way to attend both services at Zion whenever possible.
Jerry was a sweet and generous person, and will be missed by all who knew him.
