Obituary for Gary E. Johnson

Gary E. Johnson, 83, of Sykesville, MD, passed away on May 2, 2020 in Westminster, MD. He was born on July 3, 1936 in Hamilton, MD. Mr. Johnson was the last survivor of his 7 siblings: Leonard, Reynold, Phil, Donald, John, Bob, and Dale. Mr. Johnson was married to the late Lillian (nee Chumley) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduation from high school, Gary worked for Henry Adams, LLC. After 37 years where he reached the level of vice president, Gary transitioned to Mueller Associates, Inc. where he joined with Dick Mueller, Gene Nerf, and Alex Petrlik. Mr. Johnson worked as a partner of Mueller Associates, Inc. from 1992 to 2006, culminating in a 50+ year career as an engineer consultant. Gary’s other accomplishments include his service as president of the Baltimore chapter of ASHRAE, before eventually being enshrined as a fellow of ASHRAE, the national organization for HVAC consulting engineers. In addition, Gary coached Harford Park Little League for 15 years. Gary also served in the Army National Guard and remained close friends with fellow guardsmen Don Yeakle and Lanny Seymour.

Gary’s wife Lillian passed away in 2007, after 49 years of marriage. We are grateful that they are finally together again.

He is survived by his children Linda Cubeas and her husband Ray, Deborah Ann Trageser and her husband Paul, Gary E. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Stephanie, and Gregory E. Johnson and his wife Jennifer. Gary is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Due to the current health crisis, the funeral service will be private. Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. In leu of flowers, donations to the Dove House (Carroll Hospice) would be greatly appreciated at https://www.carrollhospice.org/make-a-gift.

His family will be reaching out with more information regarding a memorial service at a date yet to be determined.
