Frances L. Leegins, 86, of Reisterstown passed away on September 30, 2020 at her home.
She was born on October 6, 1933 in West Virginia to the late Okey and Erma Helms.
Mrs. Leegins graduated from nursing school in Montgomery, West Virginia and came to
Maryland to complete her training as a registered nurse. After a long professional career,
she retired as the Director of Residential Services at the Rosewood Center in 1993. A
member of Grace Bible Baptist Church, she was a devout Christian who read her bible daily
and believed firmly in the power of prayer. She also believed in angels and the magic of
Christmas. A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved her children and adored her
grandchildren. A lifelong animal lover, she provided a lap of luxury to several pugs, cats,
and most recently her Boston Terrier, Sherman. Always true to her West Virginia roots, she
never lost her southern accent or her love of pig’s feet and ramps.
She is survived by son James Wayne Long of Millers, MD; son Stephen L. Long of Ashburn,
VA; daughter Vandi L. Stewart of Eldersburg, MD; step daughter Margi Inselmann of Flower
Mound, TX; and five grandchildren. For the last twenty years, she was blessed with an Angel
on Earth, her neighbor Phil Christy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Glada L. Daugherty, her former
husband James H. Long Jr., the father of her children, and husband Charles L. Leegins, the
father of her step daughter.
