Edward Aloysius Schmedes, 86, passed away peacefully at the University of Maryland Hospital on October 10, 2022. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 ½ years, Elizabeth “Betty” Schmedes (nee Laffin), his 2 sons, Peter A. Schmedes and his wife Charlene, and Patrick J. Schmedes and his wife Katie. Edward is survived by his grandchildren, Laura Leary, Scott Schmedes and Grace Schmedes, and 2 beloved great granddaughters Kennedy and Mackenzie.
Edward was born to Peter and Marie Schmedes on December 1, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, and he is also survived by 1 sister, Rita Raszewski, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Edward loved surrounding himself with his family, and he enjoyed a long career working for Painters Mill Automotive Services as an auto mechanic. He loved driving and his true passion that he found as a Marine was cooking and baking. He made the best Apple Pies among many other culinary delights.
The family will recieve friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane, Pikesville, Maryland from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm with a Funeral Mass at 12:30. Interment will follow at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
