Obituary for Edith Rhoades Nelson

Edith Rhoades Nelson, age 95, passed away from natural causes on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in North Billerica, Massachusetts.
Edith was born on May 31, 1927 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to the late Clemmie Frances Rhoades (née Dillard) and C. Dewey Rhoades.
Family meant the world to Edith. She was raised in Wilkes County on her grandparents’ farm and in town in North Wilkesboro. Following her high school graduation in 1944, she moved to Hampton Virginia to do calculations for the engineers at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). In 1948, she married Herbert Clarence Nelson. She became a homemaker and was blessed with four children. She was very devoted to raising her children well and to her husband. She was a devout Christian, and enjoyed helping others. She cared for family and friends throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her family.
The funeral will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Eline Funeral Home – Reisterstown, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown MD 21136. Visitation, starting at 11:00 a.m., will be followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at noon. Thereafter, the funeral will proceed to Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville MD 21784 for the graveside service and burial. Peter DeMik, Senior Pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Laurel Maryland, will conduct the Celebration of Life service and the graveside service.
Edith’s husband preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage. She is survived by her son David Alan (Diane) Nelson and three daughters Barbara Ann Nelson (George) Gooch, Kathryn Frances Nelson (Robert) Lee, and Sharon Linda Nelson; six grandchildren Karyn Rae Nelson (Kirk) Sanger, Tracey Jean Nelson (Jared) Castiglione, Angela Dawn Gooch (Jack) McGurk, Stephen Nelson Lee, Alexandra Danielle Lee, and Alaric Robert (Lydia) Marani; and five great-grandsons Aidan Nelson Sanger, Dalton Nelson Sanger, Finn Nelson Sanger, James Ryan McGurk and Kyle Frank McGurk.
