Dr. William Richard Rosenberger, DVM


Dr. William R. Rosenberger, 91, of Reisterstown passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 due to complications from a fall. Born on February 16, 1930 in Westminster MD to the late John Henry and Edith Mae (nee Brauning) Rosenberger, he is predeceased by his sister, Ruth (Parrott) and brothers Henry and John. Bill is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Marian LaRue (nee Coblentz).

Known as “Doc Rosie” to his many friends and clients throughout the years, Bill was the owner of the Reisterstown Veterinary Center. Always at the ready with a big smile & belly laugh, Bill’s passion for medicine and animals were always undeniable. After graduation from Westminster High School in 1947, where he was a Maryland State Basketball Champion, Bill completed his undergraduate work in Biology at Western Maryland College (McDaniel College) in 1951. He continued his study at the University of Maryland, and then completing his work at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Bill joined Reisterstown Veterinary Center in the early 1960’s, quickly became a partner and eventually was the sole owner.

Bill worked tirelessly with his partners to create a hometown clinic where animals of all shapes & sizes where cared for and loved. While being an expert in all animals, big and small, Bill’s true passion were cows, horses & all things farm animal. He was known as a dependable, sensible, compassionate veterinarian who always had a positive outlook.

Bill’s decorated Veterinary Medicine career led him to many unique clients, such as the famously accomplished thoroughbred Native Dancer, Sagamore Farms, Fenwick Farms and Vanderbilt Farms, among many other beloved clients. Bill would speak on occasion to varous animal organizations, sharing various medical cases that he had documented. Bill also served for many years as an on-call Veterinarian for The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, where his favorite story of treating a constipated elephant was born many years ago. For many years, Bill was an onsite Veterinarian for the nationally-esteemed Maryland Steeple Chase Associations Governor Cup Series .

Bill is survived by his two children, Bonnie Rosenberger Caton (husband Michael) of Gettysburg, PA and Dave Rosenberger (wife Cheryl) of Newport Beach, CA. He is blessed with five grandsons: Dashiel, Henry (Hank), Tucker and Cabot Rosenberger of Newport Beach, CA and Christian Cook (wife Alexandra) of Baltimore, MD and one great-grandson, Sonny Cook. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Services to be held Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11:30am at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD. Family will welcome friends Monday at 10:30am until time of service. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD.
