On Friday, October 7, 2022 at 8:23 pm, Dr. Maximo I. Ilagan passed away at 88 years old.
Our beloved "Tatay" (father in our language) is survived by his wife of 56 years, Leonila, his son, Michael and his wife, Lorna; his daughter, Maricel and her husband, Joe; and his grandchildren, Sebastian and Julia.
Tatay was born in Janopol Batangas, Philippines on May 29, 1934. He was a practicing dentist in Tanauan, Batangas for 22 years until he immigrated to the United States in 1976 with the sole purpose of providing a better life for his family. He subsequently worked as a Maryland Health Inspector for several years until retiring to help take care of his grandchildren.
Tatay's strong Catholic faith was a foundation of his life. He prayed daily and told us many times he found strength in knowing God helped him and guided him throughout his life.
Tatay was a simple man. His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He did not have many hobbies, but a favorite of his was "chismising" (chit chat in english) with his family members about the old days. Besides rice obviously, his favorite foods to eat are bananas, milk and fish (everyday it seemed). He doesn't say goodbye on the phone, and when he has made his point and doesn't want anyone to say anything else, he says "case closed" instead. It eventually became our nickname for Tatay.
Throughout his life, Tatay was always true to himself. Whether right or wrong his motivations and actions were always "for my family" and for that we are thankful and forever grateful.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, October 13th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Eline Funeral Home at 11824 Reisterstown Rd, Reisterstown, Md 21136.
A funeral will be held privately for the immediate family.
