Obituary for Dr. Jasvantlal Dwarkadas Mahadevia

Jasvant Dwarkadas Mahadevia, passed away on April 23, 2022 at the age of 88, in Columbia, Maryland. Despite having battled several health issues over the last few years, he rarely showed his pain and always had the widest smile on his face. His content and peaceful demeanor brought comfort and joy to everyone, as did his youthfulness and sense of humor. He always showed great courage, spirit, and strong-will throughout his life - even during his last moments.

As a scholar, he not only dedicated his life to excelling in economics and completing his PhD, but he also was a devout learner of the Hindu scriptures. At the age of 80, he published his first book, The Wisdom of Vedanta. He continued to channel his love and devotion for God and wrote five books: Srimad Bhagavad Gita Brahma Vidya Bodhini Volume 1 &2, The Philosophical Thoughts of Srimad Bhagavata Volume 1 & 2, and The Garland of Devotional Gems. Even while he was undergoing his treatments, he was looking forward to publishing his last and final book, The Nine Principal Upanishads.

As the eldest of five siblings, he was a guiding light and inspiration to his brothers and extended family who deeply love and respect him. Lovingly known as, “Mahadevia” to his strong, devoted wife, Jyotsna, Jasvant was also a loving and caring husband. He worked very hard and overcame many challenges to build a stable and successful foundation for his wife, children and grandchildren.

His legacy around education, striving for excellence, and devotion to the scriptures and their teachings, will be forever remembered and honored by his family.

He is survived by his children Sonal and Parthiv, their respective spouses Shirish and Jyothi, and his grandchildren Samvida, Anjali, Shalin, Shivanshi, and Kiren.
