In Loving Memory
Robert H. Baker, Sr.
11/22/1915 - 1/19/2010
...

Robert Hudson Baker, Sr., 94, of Reisterstown, died on January 19, 2010 at FutureCare Cherrywood, Reisterstown.  He was born on November 22, 1915 in South Trenton, New York to the late Daniel and Jeanette Lamb Baker.  He was married to Ethel V. McNeave Baker.

Bob was born in South Trenton, New York and attended Bliss Electrical School in Tacoma Park, Maryland after graduating from Holland Patent High School.  After graduating first in his class at Bliss, he was recruited to Westinghouse where he spent his career as an engineer.  He worked his way up the company becoming foreman, then plant manager and eventually was responsible for planning and building Westinghouse plants in Sykesville, MD and Puerto Rico as well as Shannon and Kells, Ireland.  During this time he also invented induction-heating equipment for which he received a patent.

Bob was a faithful Christian and an active church member first joining Lochearn Presbyterian Church where he became an elder.  After moving to Reisterstown, he joined Reisterstown United Methodist church where he served on numerous committees and was named the 2001 Man of the Year.

Also very civic minded, Bob was active in Kiwanis.  He was President of both the Lochearn and Reisterstown Kiwanis Clubs, receiving the George F. Hickson Award from Kiwanis International.  He founded the youth group, Kiwanis Key Club, in Reisterstown, MD.

Known as Mr. Fix It for his love of carpentry – Bob tackled a variety of challenging tasks and fixed all things broken.  Everyone remembers our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle as the man with the warm smile and easy laugh – recalling many of his adventures with his wife of 69 years, Ethel.  He loved camping and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as vacationing in Europe, Egypt and Italy.  We all will miss him greatly, remember the memories fondly and look forward to our reunion in heaven.

He is survived in addition to his wife, by daughter Janette A. Montgomery of Reisterstown, son Robert H. Baker, Jr. of Florida and daughter Amy E. Pelton of Reisterstown, sister Ruth Ingersol of South Trenton NY, grandchildren Bobbie Jo Baker, Carrie E. Jenkins and Darby E. Pelton.

Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD on Friday 3-5 & 7-9PM.

Funeral service will be held at Reisterstown United Methodist Church, 246 Main Street, Reisterstown on Saturday 10AM with the Rev. Carol Yocum officiating.

Interment will be in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville.  If desired contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown Club, P.O. Box 58, Reisterstown, MD 21136 or the Reisterstown United Methodist Church.

Your husband and dad was the genuine article. One of the nicest people you could ever know -- one of those rare individuals that always seemed interested in you and what was going on in your life. He was the best man at my parents wedding and continued to be their best friend thoughout their lives. He will be sorely missed.
