Obituary for Ralph Stewart Walsh

Ralph Stewart Walsh, 91, of Hampstead, died Friday, May 1, 2015.
Born September 23, 1923 at Shiloh, near Hampstead, son of Paul Jackson and Naomi Snyder Walsh, he was the husband of the late Dorothy Loats Walsh, to whom he was married for 65 years.


He attended the one-room school at Shiloh, Hampstead High School (Class of 1940) and Baltimore Business College.


A life-long member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, he attended regularly and served on various committees. Among offices held: Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.


He was President of Walsh Equipment and Construction Company; founder (in 1955) and President of Walsh Fuel & Supply Company; partner Hampstead Car Wash; former President and Chairman of the Board of Hampstead Bank of Carroll County; former member of the Board of Directors of Farmers and Merchants Bank, Fowblesburg; former President Carroll County General Hospital and Med Services; former member of the Board Farmers Fertilizer and Feed, Westminster; Past President Hampstead Chamber of Commerce; member Lebanon Lodge A. F. & A. M., Manchester; and one of the founding directors of Piney Branch Golf and Country Club. He greatly enjoyed restoring antique trucks and attending conventions of the American Antique Truck Historical Society.


He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and his son Michael Patrick, Hampstead. Surviving are his son Pól (Paul) of County Galway, Ireland; his daughters-in-law Teresa Walsh and Robin Walsh; granddaughters Úna, Colleen, Alison, Bridget and Kathleen; great-grandsons Oscar and Oisín; his cousin Francis E. Walsh, with whom he grew up as a brother; and his good friend and cousin Paul Shaffer.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 3:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, MD. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 3100 Shiloh Road, Hampstead, MD. Interment will be in Wesley U.M. Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
